The pillars of eLearning
When we implemented the iPads for the entire EHTL school community, it was important to us that the “one2one” project should not remain a simple technological project, but that it should become the vehicle for real didactic innovation. To this end, we have defined the pillars of eLearning worthy of the name, on which all future approaches to the use of new technologies at EHTL, and in particular blended learning classes, will be based.
These pillars are:
- Good Content: quality teaching materials
- It’s about learning: Teaching and ICT for the learner
- Guide on the side: The teacher as guide
- Flipped Classroom: The classroom is flipped, the learner semi-autonomous
- Whenever, wherever: Flexibility for efficiency
- Keep it simply smart: Watermarking ICTE

It is precisely in this differentiation of learning that certain platforms are proving to be real facilitators for teachers, who are no longer the “sage on the stage” but the “guide on the side”, but also and above all for learners, who can take advantage of personalized learning paths.

Babbel
Unlike the Voltaire Projectthe Babbel platform is not focused on grammar, spelling and expression, but offers a highly pragmatic approach to foreign language learning.
Babbel not only allows you to learn a multitude of languages based on your own level using a placement test, but also offers themed units. For example, some EHTL learners take the “French Cuisine” module to discover regional gastronomic traditions, while being able to name them using the appropriate vocabulary.
Finally, as can be seen from the examples below, the platform enables learners to take specific tests to determine their language level on the CEFR scale… which is a plus for their CV.
Lobster Ink
This learning platform is specifically designed for our “Hospitality Management” classes, and partially also for our practical courses in pastry-making and traditional cuisine. Thanks to its large number of videos, it is particularly useful for a blended learning approach, where learners prepare the material on their own and then work on it in class.

To guarantee excellent learning for young people wishing to enter the HoReCa professions, EHTL’s teaching staff develop most of the course materials themselves.
