The EHTL, partner of the Luxembourg pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

A formative experience for pupils and students

Postponed by one year due to the covid-19 pandemic, the next World’s Exhibition will open its doors on October 1, 2021 in Dubai and expects a total of 25 million visitors.

The EHTL will be present in the Luxembourg pavilion, offering its pupils and students the opportunity to carry out tasks in cooking, baking, service and reception. Candidates who will have the chance to take part in this unique experience will be hand-picked.

During a videoconference organized on February 24, 2021, the headmaster Michel LANNERS explained all the criteria and organization modalities to the students and their parents. Periods, schedules, supervision, accommodation, activities, expenses, insurance, continuity of learning, are all points that were reviewed.

It is still impossible to give an opinion on the health measures that will be in place in eight months, but one thing is certain: the organizers of Expo 2020 Dubai are doing everything possible to ensure that the event can take place while guaranteeing the safety of those working on the site and that of visitors.

“At the time of the lockdown, the work has certainly been slowed down, but the construction sites have continued and the Luxembourg pavilion will be completed this summer,” explained Maggy NAGEL, General Commissioner of Expo 2020 Dubai. An accelerated video (available on www.luxembourgexpo2020dubai.lu) allows you to follow the construction of this pavilion in the shape of the Möbius ribbon, symbol of infinity, openness and dynamism.

The EHTL students were delighted to see what the architecture and scenography will look like. Between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022, between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors per day will be able to discover the architecture and scenography in the Luxembourg pavilion. They also had the opportunity to get a precise idea of the “Schengen Lounge” restaurant where they will have to officiate at different posts.

“The young people who will have the chance to spend ten weeks in Dubai will be unrecognizable upon their return, so much this experience will have transformed them,” predicted Mr. LANNERS, speaking to parents. At the end of April, the EHTL will announce the list of lucky candidates.
