Meeting with the Ambassador of Portugal to Luxembourg

Any future collaboration in sight?

The close ties between Luxembourg and Portugal are well established. With 20% of its population being of Portuguese origin and the desire to broaden the horizons of learners through exchanges and experiences abroad, it is quite natural that the EHTL has taken an interest in the National Tourism Organisation of Portugal (ITP), which oversees all Portuguese tourism schools, with a view to a possible partnership in the field of hospitality.

A first fruitful exchange took place on 22 January 2020 at the EHTL, during a meeting with H.E. Mr António GAMITO, Ambassador of Portugal in Luxembourg. This was an opportunity to present the EHTL and its training courses, before looking into possible avenues of collaboration: joint educational projects, partnerships in the context of continuing vocational training, a study trip to the Douro wine region, promotion of the finesse and elegance of Portuguese cuisine, or even port tasting are some of the avenues that have been considered. The exchange of expertise is also an essential component: in 2018, the World Tourism Organization awarded Portuguese tourism schools for their “Tourism Training Talent” programme. The EHTL’s objective is precisely to partner with the best players in the industry in order to move towards excellence.
