The 2020 Vintage

The year 2020 delivered an early and beautifully balanced vintage.
Following a mild winter, the transition into spring came with heavy rainfall, which provided the water reserves the vines needed to withstand the summer months.
After budbreak at the end of February, the sunny months of April and May allowed for an early and perfectly smooth flowering.
From late June onward, a hot and dry period set in until mid-August thunderstorms. Veraison in mid-July unfolded under excellent conditions. Up until harvest, the healthy state of the vines ensured optimal berry ripening.
The first impression when tasting the 2020 reds is their freshness. The crispness of the black fruit, the acidity, and the mentholated, peppery finishes define the wines, as does the alcohol level—one of the lowest the appellation has seen in many years.

Tasting notes

The colour is bright, revealing a beautiful deep red hue.
On the attack, one perceives beautiful ripeness with abundant aromas of fleshy red fruits such as black cherry and blackcurrant. This is followed by more animal nuances, hints of undergrowth, and violet. Gentle extractions have encouraged fine, dense balance and very velvety tannins.
The palate is generous and indulgent, intensely fruity with touches of cocoa; the finish reveals spices and liquorice.
There is remarkable length, offering a silky and flavourful pleasure. The wines are delicate yet powerful, endowed with great complexity.
