World Tourism Day 2025
Tourism and Sustainable Transformation
The École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg (EHTL) in Diekirch is proud to join the celebrations of World Tourism Day 2025, held each year on 27 September at the initiative of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism/UNWTO). This year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, highlights the responsibility of an entire generation to address the climatic, social, and economic challenges reshaping the sector.
“The tourism of tomorrow will be built with the youth of today. At EHTL, our mission is not only to provide them with professional skills, but also to raise awareness of their role in the sustainable transformation of the sector. Their curiosity, creativity and commitment are the greatest assets to imagine a tourism that combines respect for the planet, quality hospitality and innovation.”
— Michel Lanners, Director of the École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg
Young people at the heart of transformation
Sustainable tourism is not just about greener infrastructure or environmental labels: it is, above all, about the skills and values of the young people being trained today. Preparing professionals who can combine service excellence, environmental responsibility and cultural openness lies at the very core of EHTL’s mission.
Through practice-oriented education rooted in real-world experience, the school equips its students to become ambassadors of responsible and innovative tourism. The emphasis is placed on awareness, adaptability and creativity, essential qualities for designing the solutions that will shape the sector’s future.
EHTL, a school serving society
Today, EHTL operates across two campuses and welcomes more than 400 students, reflecting Luxembourg’s commitment to training future professionals in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. Every day, teachers and students work together not only to master technical skills in service, management and hospitality, but also to reflect on the economic, social and environmental impacts of these professions.
By celebrating World Tourism Day, EHTL reaffirms its conviction: change begins in the classroom and is brought to life through the commitment of the younger generations.
