Destination Osaka for 20 EHTL students

With three months to go before the opening of the next World Expo, to be held in Osaka from 13 April to 13 October 2025, the EHTL welcomed the key players in the project for a friendly, informative and tasty discussion.

After a first successful experience at Expo Dubai 2020, and thanks to a cooperation agreement signed with the GIE, the EHTL is delighted to be an official partner of the Luxembourg Pavilion once again. The school is thus offering its pupils and students a unique opportunity to take part in this major event which, according to the Japanese authorities, is expected to attract 28 million visitors.

Many were called, but few were chosen, as nearly 80 EHTL learners applied to be part of the adventure, via a video application in English. In the end, two groups of 10 students will each have the privilege of spending three months in Japan, an exceptional practical placement.

At the Luxembourg Pavilion, the theme of which will be “Doki Doki – The Luxembourg Heartbeat”, they will be responsible for kitchen, pastry, service and reception duties.

At the Meet & Greet session held at the EHTL, they were honoured to introduce themselves and explain their motivations to Xavier Bettel, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and to the General Commissioner of the exhibition, André Hansen. Eager to discover the world, to immerse themselves in Japanese culture, to create professional opportunities, to work as part of a team and to grow as human beings, they feel like they are living a daydream and their hearts are beating with anticipation, so eager are they to be there.

The young people also explained the content of the workshops they take part in on Saturdays as part of their preparation: these include merchandising and knife-sharpening sessions, as well as Japanese lessons to help them master the basics of the language.

Ministers, commissioners, students, architects, designers, sponsors and the entire pavilion team were also able to discover the gastronomic section that will be on offer to visitors, and taste the exquisite and refined creations of six Luxembourg pastry chefs, selected after a competition.

In less than 100 days, a new world will open up to the young people of EHTL, and they will be keen to share their adventure through the school’s social networks.
