Expo 2020 Dubai: the big departure for 8 EHTL students

For 8 students from the École de l’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme, the start of the school year will be quite unusual: on 14 September, they will fly to the United Arab Emirates and stay for 11 weeks in Dubai as part of the World Expo which will open its doors to the public on 1 October 2021. While there, they will work in the dining room or in the kitchen of the Luxembourg pavilion’s restaurant, under the direction of chef Kim Kevin de Dood.

On arrival, they will have time to acclimatise and settle in, before undergoing specific HACCP (food hygiene and safety practices) training for their tasks in the Schengen Lounge restaurant.

An information meeting was held on 9 September at the EHTL to provide final practical advice: compulsory documents, a platform for communication with parents, emergency numbers, insurance, work clothes, etc.

At the end of the meeting, the students signed a participation agreement to formalise their commitment and were given their plane tickets. “You will be different young people when you return! Take advantage of this opportunity”, concluded the headmaster, Mr LANNERS.

After more than two years of preparation, the EHTL’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai is about to become a reality. This first group of students will serve as a kind of scout, since two other groups will follow on 25 November and 31 January 2022 respectively.

You will be able to follow this unique adventure and testimonies through the EHTL’s various communication channels.
